New Standardized National Survey Ranks Pullman Regional Hospital 1st in “Overall Patient Satisfaction” in the State of Washington

On Tuesday, April 8, the Washington State Hospital Association made available on its website, the ratings of hospital-specific evaluations completed by patients. Based on the data collected in this new standardized national survey, Pullman Regional Hospital ranked the highest in the state of Washington in "Overall Patient Satisfaction" with a score of 82 percent.

While many hospitals collect information on patient satisfaction, until now there has been no universally applied national standard to gauge quality levels, patient satisfaction levels, or pricing information. There has also been no method for publicly reporting this data.

As a result, the federal government has instituted a new standardized national survey to gauge these measures. The new survey is called HCAHPS: Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems. The data is being collected by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and includes data from patients who were discharged from October 2006 through June 2007. Data will be updated quarterly.

"Creating an environment where care and service at this level can be provided involves a wide variety of people. We are fortunate to have dedicated staff, physicians, volunteers, board members, and overall community support which makes this recognition especially meaningful," said Scott Adams, Chief Executive Officer of Pullman Regional Hospital.

Chief Clinical Officer, Jeannie Eylar added, "Pullman Hospital has been known for its personal and quality care for many years. An outside consultant told us over ten years ago that the people in this organization were great and it is the continuation of many wonderful people that lead to this level of patient satisfaction. It's a true privilege to work with so many people that make every effort to assure our patients have the best care possible while they are here ."
